We’re grateful for the support of all the gym teachers who allow us to come into their classes to teach their students how to play ultimate. Here’s some of their feedback on our program.
“It was an awesome opportunity to have Coach Shea share his teaching skills and love for the game of ultimate frisbee. Aside from the many physical benefits of playing ultimate, the game has inspirational practices as well. Coach Shea’s developmental approach and kid friendly personality makes everyone feel part of the action. The students in a few lessons were playing the game with success! Everyone improved their skills and many were motivated to play outside of the school day.
What was interesting to me is that this sport captured the attention of many students who don’t necessarily feel so “sporty”. I feel this is attributed to the high standards of play that are inherent in the game of ultimate frisbee. The students learn to manage the game from a place of integrity, honesty, and supportive team play in a short time. This framework makes it safe to learn and Coach Shea certainly makes this a priority above all else. As a physical educator, I feel this approach to play is desperately needed in youth sports. If you get a chance to have Coach Shea be a part of your curriculum, I highly recommend him. It was a highlight for me and my students! “

“This was the first year we had Coach Shea join our PE classes to teach our 2nd & 3rd graders about ultimate frisbee. Coach Shea was enthusiastic, positive, encouraging, and made the experience fun and enjoyable for all of our students. He outlined the importance of playing with a positive attitude, with integrity and honesty, and being cheerful and excited for our classmates and teammates.
It was amazing to learn about the number of our students that signed up to continue to learn about and play ultimate frisbee with Coach Shea outside of school! Overall, it was an awesome experience for our students and we look forward to Coach Shea coming back next year.”
